The main components of air are nitrogen and oxygen. At normal temperature, nitrogen is adsorbed by adsorbing the different capacities of nitrogen and oxygen (oxygen) in zeolite molecular sieves (ZMS), and oxygen is separated from the air by proper design. Nitrogen adsorption capacity is higher than oxygen adsorption capacity, air passes through the adsorption tank under pressure, full of ZMS, nitrogen, only a small amount of oxygen is adsorbed, most of the oxygen flows out of the container, and oxygen is generated by separating nitrogen. When the ZMS is filled with nitrogen, in order to stop the air and reduce the vessel pressure, the nitrogen is released by the ZMS, so the ZMS will be regenerated and reusable. Two or more absorption tanks are switched on and off to continue producing oxygen. This process requires a dedicated PD blower to compress the air flow to support continuous operation and a dedicated vacuum transformer to regenerate the absorber. The VPSA process is more energy efficient due to the inherently continuous process, this technology was chosen as the main reason for the large scale high volume low pressure oxygen requirement.
